Hae Won Chang — Korean Piano Open

Hae-Won Chang obtained B.A. and M.A. at the College of Music, Ewha Womans University in Seoul, Korea and continued her music studies at the Frankfurt State Musikhochschule. She was the first Korean to be awarded the Konzertexamen Diplom in Germany.

Since 1968 she has enjoyed a busy career as a pedagogue and performer for recitals, concerts with orchestras, and recordings in Korea and other countries in Asia, America and Europe.

She has recorded many kinds of CDs for Naxos and Marco Polo, such as J. S. Bach and J. Haydn’s complete concertos, J. N. Hummel’s complete sonatas and concertos. D. Scarlatti’s 33 sonatas, Gabriel Pierné and Jacques Ibert’s piano pieces. She won high praise not only in the German and French press but also all over the world for her technical accomplishment and musicianship. Pianist Chang has served on the jury of the International Piano Competitions for more than 40 times.

She received "The Cross of the Order of Merit" of the Federal Republic of Germany and the presidential award, the Korean National Award for Culture and Arts of Korea, for outstanding musicianship and contribution to music education.

Pianist Chang established Ewon Cultural Center and Institute in Seoul and Cheonan.

She is currently Member of the National Academy of Arts, The Republic of Korea and Chairperson of the Piano Society of Korea, Emiritus Professor of Ewha Womans University and President of Ewon Cultural Institute.
